Raise Your Voice: Urge Your MP to Sign the Letter to the Prime Minister
Dear Prime Minister,
We write to you today with great urgency regarding an issue of utmost importance that demands immediate attention. This matter pertains to the provision of prescribed medicinal cannabis oils for children, and we implore you to take decisive action to rectify the current access issues faced by these vulnerable individuals.
In 2018, three children were granted free access to their life-saving cannabis medication, marking a significant step forward in ensuring a better quality of life for them and their families. The intention behind the law change was to extend this access to other children and young adults facing similar health challenges. However, to our dismay, this promise remains unfulfilled, leaving countless families burdened with exorbitant costs of up to £2,000 per month to obtain these essential medications.
It is distressing to witness families, already grappling with the emotional and physical strain of caring for their sick children, being forced into financial hardship due to the unaffordable prices of medicinal cannabis oils. The dire consequences of this crisis cannot be overstated, as it not only robs families of valuable time with their ailing children but also perpetuates a cycle of poverty and despair.
We find it deeply troubling that the government has failed to ensure safe access for private patients, while only three fortunate children have been granted the privilege of free medications. This discrepancy is not only unjust but also a gross violation of the rights and well-being of countless children and young adults who urgently require access to these life-saving treatments. We, as Members of Parliament, cannot stand idly by while these vulnerable individuals and their families suffer. We demand immediate and urgent action to address this crisis and bring about a fair and equitable solution. It is imperative that an immediate reimbursement or fund be put in place to ensure that children’s prescribed medicinal cannabis oils are accessible and financially viable until the broader access issues can be appropriately resolved.
There are in fact 2 adults who receive NHS funding for their private cannabis prescriptions. We feel that it is a great injustice that the families of epileptic children have been left to fund this life saving medication, with no NHS or Government help.
We understand the complexities involved in navigating the legal and regulatory landscape surrounding medicinal cannabis, but we firmly believe that the well-being and safety of these children should be our utmost priority. As representatives of our constituents and advocates for positive change, we implore you to take decisive action in rectifying this crisis and ensuring the provision of these life-saving medications for all those in need.
Time is of the essence, Prime Minister, and we beseech you to act swiftly and decisively to address this pressing matter. The lives and well-being of these children and their families depend on your immediate intervention. We trust in your commitment to upholding justice and your dedication to the welfare of our nation’s most vulnerable citizens. Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.
Yours faithfully
